Although it is a newly-minted addition to Tanzania's Tarangire National Park, Honeyguide Tarangire Camp has the feel of an old yet luxury classic. The tented camp is owned by safari giants who have intimate, well-honed knowledge of the industry. Everything about the camp has been chosen with care, from the expert guides to the sensational menu to the plush mattresses. Set in a grove of umbrella thorns with views of the vast savanna, it enjoys an ideal vantage in the wilderness. Is it too soon to say it? Honeyguide has all the makings of a legendary camp...

Set on low wooden platforms, the main camp consists of a Bedouin dining tent and a cushy lounge, both connected by a wooden walkway. Though little more than canvas supported by tent poles, the spaces are furnished with quality pieces and imbued with an elegant air. The dining tent has several individual tables and a long buffet at its centre whilst the lounge is adorned with Persian rugs, pretty pillows, cushioned sofas (all oriented toward the excellent view) and a library of classics.
The bedroom tents are made from canvas and are wonderfully luxurious and well-appointed. The best feature has to be the three sides of mesh panelling that allow for near 360-degree views. Inside, you'll find a small sitting area, a large writing desk, a closet and an en-suite bathroom with double basins, a flush toilet and a rain shower. Outside, each has a shady porch, ideal for admiring the comings and goings of the bush.
Morning and afternoon activities scaffold your day at Honeyguide. Early morning drives start around the fire with a cup of coffee, while afternoon activities happen post-teatime. Drives give you an overview of the extraordinary landscape, from the grasslands to the thickets, and get you up close to all the well-known actors of this stage. For an even more in-depth glimpse into the landscape of Tarangire, enjoy a walking safari with your stellar guide.
The intimacy and down-to-earth hospitality of Honeyguide will make you want to stay for three months rather than just three nights!
Families with small kids will feel very well taken care of with super-spacious tents and chefs that accommodate tiny tastebuds.
This is glamping as its luxe best so if you're looking for something a bit more rugged, you might be wise to opt for something less refined.
