Hotel Quinta Ladera

Breezy, tropical and full of natural light, the communal spaces at Quinta Ladera are laden with honey-coloured tiles, hand-crafted pieces and pot plants of every shape and size. At its centre is a peaceful courtyard with a pond and hammock – very inviting after a day spent exploring Medellin. At the Ganso & Casor restaurant, tuck into traditional French cuisine whilst enjoying the warm and convivial atmosphere. The hotel takes great pride in its sustainability practices and all amenities are organic (and delicious).

Each room is individually-designed in tones of green, peach, blue or yellow, with beautiful hand-crafted wall hangings and local furniture. Standard rooms have a Queen-size bed topped with 300 thread count sheets, while the Artisan rooms are equipped with a King and a private terrace, an idyllic spot to enjoy the sunshine and peace and quiet. The bathrooms range from modern with a large, glass-walled shower to more rustic. In keeping with their eco-conscious philosophy, there are no TVs but there is a fibre internet connection.

Despite its tranquil setting, the guesthouse is just steps away from Medellin's bustling shops and restaurants. Explore a little further and you'll come across El Castillo Museum, which offers a look at the life of one of the most powerful families of 20th-century Medellin, or visit the Pueblito Paisa, a picturesque replica of traditional Antoquia towns. Admire the astonishing street art of Comuna 13 or peruse the works at the Museum of Modern Art. And for the very best views of the city, ride the cable car to the mountaintop Arvi Park.
