About Idube Private Game Reserve

A laid-back safari in the heart of South Africa's Big Five wilderness
Idube Game Reserve is a 10,000-hectare private concession in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Part of the area known as the Greater Kruger, Idube's explosion of wildlife includes the must-see Big Five, along with a host of other specials. The trackers and guides here really deliver – their ability to locate the animals is off the charts, and we guarantee a frisson of excitement as your armed guard escorts you to your cabin at night – in case a leopard wanders past. After the day's excitement, sitting poolside, drink in hand and watching the birds frolicking, is practically mandatory.

Property details

The property

Set on a shaded grassy patch, the thatched bar and entertainment area is where you'll spend most of your time chatting to other guests, playing a round of who spotted the best animal or took the best photograph. The camp is frequented by a number of smaller animals such as nyala and warthog that can be watched from the open lounge, while the pool area offers sightings of numerous birds. The excellent game viewing makes Idube worth every penny.

The rooms

With air-conditioning, attractive draped mosquito nets, tea and coffee facilities and an outdoor shower, all 10 of the en-suite chalets quickly become an oasis of comfort for when you need some me-time. Don't miss your early-morning cuppa on your private deck as you listen to the birds fluttering in the trees and smaller animals like squirrels and monkeys looking for breakfast on the grassy lawn between the chalets.

Activities

Spending a morning or afternoon on a three- to four-hour game drive, where you'll see not only the Big Five but countless other species at close quarters, is as remarkable as it sounds. Stops along the way for tea, coffee or sundowners give you the chance to listen to the silence and take some incredible photographs. Guided bush walks after breakfast are an adrenalin rush – perfect for burning off the kilojoules and getting some great sightings.

What you'll love

What you'll love

The wildlife doesn't consider the lodge outside of their domain, so antelope are often seen grazing on the grounds and you may just find an elephant wandering a few metres from your deck.

Insiders Tip

If you're an avid photographer, the open-topped vehicles, off-roading opportunities, and excellent trackers mean you could achieve the snaps of a lifetime.
Something to think about

Something to think about

Idube's 'Linked Suites', with their shared communal spaces, are fantastic for families but not ideal if you're seeking total privacy.
