Iguana Crossing was built with entirely sustainable materials and this eco-conscious ethos continues throughout. Food-wise, vegetables are grown in the highlands, their fruit on local farms, and the bread is brought fresh from a local bakery every morning. Expect the fresh ingredients to be made into imaginative local cuisine, including traditional sancocho soup and the specialty, catch-of-the-day grilled on a lava stone. The spacious terrace features an infinity pool and Jacuzzi with 360° views of the ocean and surrounding volcanoes - perfect for a drink, a book or both.
Rooms at Iguana Crossing are classic and neat. Most of them have a private balcony with views of the Pacific Ocean or the Sierra Negra Volcano and its forested hills, and beds are large and comfortable with crisp, white linens. Across the board, amenities include a TV, mini bar, small safe and air-con. The Master Suite has expansive glass doors leading onto a private veranda, a cosy chaise lounge and dining table, while large, colourful paintings adorn the walls.
Isla Isabela is the largest in the archipelago. It's known as the 'Island of the Volcanoes', one of the largest being Sierra Negra, which offers hikes to the top for epic views across the crater, lava flows, and ocean beyond. When it comes to snorkelling, there's ample opportunity, whether it's boating off to Las Tintoreras where white-tipped sharks doze in the shallows, or Los Tuneles where you'll spot green sea turtles, sea lion, manta rays and more.
