A broad avenue of grass leads toward the butter-yellow lodge, which sits well back from the road. The building and its open wraparound porch really seem to draw you in. So succumb... Inside, Japanese-style skylights ensure sun floods throughout the interior, with its two sitting areas and central dining table. Outside, the oval pool sparkles, and benches and picnic tables scattered around the garden are perfect for birdwatching, resting with a book, and admiring the carefully placed local soapstone sculptures.

In the main house, six spacious bedrooms with high ceilings and large windows feature some lovely African artwork. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with large walk-in showers tiled with natural river stones, and double doors that open to the patio. Expect all the mod cons you've grown accustomed to – high-speed wi-fi, TV, a minibar, tea and coffee station, heater and fan. Beyond the swimming pool, a separate garden cottage has its own private veranda and a fully equipped kitchen.
