Breakfast and lunch are served in the thatched, open-sided dining room overlooking the bush. Beside it, the lounge area has comfy couches that are perfect for settling back and taking in the scenery. There's a good wine cellar stocked with bottles from some of South Africa's top estates. If the weather's favourable, dinner may be prepared on an open fire, safari style, and enjoyed in the traditional outdoor boma, with the flames and the stars as lighting.
The camp offers something for everyone in its standard suites, luxury suites and family suite – 15 rooms in total. All are spacious and luxurious, while still possessing a quintessential camping-in-the-bush feel. There's aircon, insect screens (mosquitoes can be a problem), en-suite bathrooms and a private deck, perfect for gazing at the rugged scenery. Three family units include a luxury suite with a lap pool and separate, adjoining children's room.
Whether you're the avid adventurer, always up for action, or the quiet traveller who's simply craving hard-earned rest and relaxation, Kapama Southern Camp has you sorted. Travel into the wild by vehicle or on foot with the excellent ranger and tracking teams for some spectacular game sightings. For a fee, take a hot-air balloon ride, interact with elephants, visit the nearby Hoedspruit Centre for Endangered Species or, for the romantic but brave, sleep out beneath the stars.
Modest in size but not in wildlife, Kapama is perfect for a laidback safari in very capable hands.
