The camp is entirely mobile and repositioned every afternoon, the location ranging from rocky outcrops and riverside clearings to the shadow of Mount Kenya. Thus, the camp is simple with a stretched canvas mess tent where breakfast and dinner are enjoyed at an alfresco table, and lunches are a freeform buffet served just after you arrive after a morning exploring. Sundowners are always set up in an especially scenic locale, where you'll clink glasses as the night wraps around you.
Karisia offers three tiers of accommodation, luxury, classic or AirBnC (Air Bed & Camel). The first two include a canvas tent for two, furnished with a spacious mattress and plump pillows and duvet, colourful carpets, a vanity table, solar-powered light, and private shower. The luxury tents also throw in dressing gowns and hot water bottles. The AirBnC tents accommodate four people and the ablutions are shared, but they are still more than comfortable.
Karisia walking safaris cover a vast variety of landscapes, but all itineraries offer camel rides, rock climbing and wildlife tracking with your Samburu guides. The locations include the Tumaren Conservation Area, Lower Ewaso Wilderness, Matthews Range, which promises swimming in waterfalls and close encounters with elephant and buffalo, and Karisia Hills where you'll spot incredible birdlife and learn about medicinal plants used by Samburu communities- be sure to look out for klipspringer, gerenuk and Grevy's zebra alongside brimming rivers.
