Kasonso Camp

Stationed on the edge of a teak forest overlooking a seasonal floodplain, Kasonso feels utterly wild. With few bells and whistles to distract from the surrounds, it nevertheless makes a statement about the purity of a bush experience like this. At its heart sits a canvas mess tent, with a small cushioned lounge and a dinner table. Just in front is the campfire area, where nightly drinks are shared, stories recounted and stars serve as the decorations.

Four thatched-roof canvas tents flanking either side of the main area are accessed via a well-worn footpath (though a guide will accompany you for safety). The "less is more" theme continues in the tents, which contain all the creature comforts without needless luxuries. The mattress is plush, the linens crisp and clean, the mosquito net generous, and the en-suite bathroom equipped with a hot-water shower, sink and toilet. A small covered porch area is furnished with a few camping chairs.

The focus of your stay at Kasonso is decidedly your time in the bush. The camp staff are primed for any adventure, always willing to pack a lunch or snack for a longer outing. Morning and afternoon game drives are standard, and full-day adventures encouraged. Guides here are some of the best in the business – extremely professional, knowledgeable and keen. Expect to see plenty of wildlife, including lion, leopard, wild dog, cheetah, elephant, and rarer red lechwe and roan.
