History oozes from every nook and cranny of this Cape Dutch farmstead. The gabled manor, full of character and filled with antiques, is in pristine condition; and the old bakery has been converted into an aviation-themed bar inspired by Julian's passion for flying. Multi-course meals are a feast, served in the beautiful old dining room. There are 6000 hectares of land to explore, and shady grounds that will lure you to settle back with a book.
The farm offers several different types of luxurious and comfortable accommodation in renovated farm buildings, ranging in aesthetic from Victorian to African. All have en-suite bathrooms, and are furnished with fine antiques dating back to earlier Melck family members. Treat yourself to the luxury suite, in a separate barn beside the breakfast room. It's a modern take on the lifestyle of a colonial gentleman farmer.
Kersefontein is a great place to enjoy life's slower-paced pleasures, like long walks on farm roads (expect to come across sheep, cattle and horses), relaxing with a book from the farm's libraries, lazing on the riverbanks or on the pontoon, or boating and admiring the birds. Horseback riding can be arranged, and the farm can be used as a base to visit the coast or the Swartland wineries, which are growing in reputation every year.
