The wooden, grass-thatched main building houses the bar and restaurant, their sides open to the bright garden and the forest. Meals follow a set menu, as produce is hard to come by locally and is brought in from Kampala daily, but the food is very good (as is the coffee!). Special dietary requirements will be met if you specify them when booking.
Accommodation is budget friendly, with a choice of seven tents with a communal ablution block, and 10 self-contained safari-style tents. The communal tents, all set beneath a grass-thatched roof, are perfectly adequate, with comfortable beds (bedding and towels provided) and a power outlet for charging your electrical equipment. The slightly more glam safari tents have hardwood floors, twin or double beds, en-suite bathrooms and, outside, a private veranda where you can relax and watch the colobus at play.
Kibale National Park is a paradise for wildlife, which thrives in the evergreen forest. Go chimp trekking (there are 13 species of primate in all), head to the swamps for some serious birding, walk through the local villages to reach the pretty Mahoma waterfalls, visit the tea estates that surround the forest or take the three-hour Top of the World Hike. If you're a butterfly enthusiast, you're in for a treat – there are 250 recorded species here.
The ultimate chimp chill-out and home to no less than 13 species of other primates.
