About Kimondo Camp

A classic, East African mobile migration camp with a touch of Moroccan charm.
Since late 2021, Kimondo has been closed permanently and is superseded by the two much-loved tented migration camps: Ubuntu and Olakira. Similar to Kimondo, Ubuntu and Olakira each move during the year between two outstanding sites in the north and south of the Serengeti. This means that you can choose Ubuntu or Olakira and are likely to see the Great Migration herds regardless of when you visit. This mobile tented camp has two locations within the Serengeti - Kusini in the South (December - March) and Lamai in the North (July - October). It is set in mixed acacia thickets with views of swaying grasslands and a permanent waterhole that attracts a variety of interesting creatures. The camp has been carefully thought out and offers all the creature comforts you could wish for. The best part? The thundering hooves of the Great Migration are never far away.

Property details

The property

The main area comprises two side by side tents, one lounge tent and one dining tent, each practically adorned with comfortable but functional furniture. Attention to detail enables maximum comfort and ensures that all space is utilised effectively. The campfire is the perfect place to sip on a sundowner and revel in the magic of the Great Migration as you immerse yourself in the surrounding noises of the night.

The rooms

Kimondo Camp has eight en-suite tents, each with their own view of the seamless, unending wilderness. The tents are evenly distributed on either side of the two central tents. The decor is classic and simple, with all the necessities required to provide refuge from the midday heat, comfort and ultimate relaxation. Each tent has a small private veranda with a recliner style chair from which to admire the stunning landscapes.

Activities

The Serengeti is a national park and, as such, activities revolve around daytime game drives in the heart of the Great Migration. There is no better way to approach and encounter the wildlife of this region. If you fancy a change of scenery, a cultural visit can be arranged to meet the surrounding community and learn the ancient traditions of the local Kuria Village people.

Something to think about

Something to think about

Kimondo is a small, cosy camp which is all part of the charm, but the tents are quite close together and when you’re sitting on your veranda, you might catch the eye of fellow migration-watchers in neighbouring tents.
