The heart and soul of the farm is certainly the farm-to-table restaurant, Ggava Mukulya (strength through food in Luganda). The menu is designed for international palates and high-energy activities, so the portions are hearty (the steaming hot buns served at the breakfast buffet are sublime). The variety of landscapes within the property attract wildlife such as like monkeys and an assortment of birds. The pool offers a bit of respite from the jungle heat, for big and little kids alike.
Ten self-contained bungalows (varied in size to accommodate singles, couples and families) have sweeping vistas of the Rwenzori Mountains and private terraces from which to enjoy them. All have en-suite facilities with a shower and bathtub. Covered tents offer a comfortable night's sleep on two twin beds with decent mattresses, and are equipped with clean linen, electric lamps, large shaded porches, and camp chairs. You'll have to share ablution facilities, but the high-pressure hot water makes up for any inconvenience.
Fort Portal is a convenient gateway to Uganda’s exceptional wildernesses. From the farm, head to Kibale National Park, with its vast tropical forests and healthy populations of habituated chimpanzees (guided excursions will lead you to them). Chimps are endlessly entertaining, but look out for the other 12 primate species found here. Also nearby is Rwenzori Mountains National Park, a World Heritage Site that's home to 70-plus mammal and 442 bird species. Fort Portal's markets and botanical garden deserve a visit.
The ultimate chimp chill-out and home to no less than 13 species of other primates.
