On the palm-studded lawns, hanging swings are perfect for lazy afternoons and just a few sandy steps from the beach, the turquoise infinity pool has a rustic deck with rough-hewn couches. The relaxation continues with mango body wraps and Khmer remedies at the spa, or a peaceful yoga session at sunrise. The rustic Strand serves creative Khmer dishes like squid bolognese and curried pork belly, capped off with banana rice fritters and salted caramel ice cream. At the water's edge, the laidback lounge offers a mean cocktail list.
Knai Bang Chatt is 'boutique' with a twist. There are three photogenic villas, ranging from rust-red and artsy to the resort's sky-blue showpiece. Each room takes its design cue from the villa, which range from earthy to minimalist - and decorated with handcrafted ceramics and antiques. Wrapped in mosquito nets, the large teak beds are raised on tressles, while some rooms have a terrace and cosy day bed. The open-plan suites have a separate lounge with cushy bean bags and a jacuzzi-style bathtub (the other rooms only have a shower).
Head over to the Sailing Club to explore the bay by catamaran, kayak down the coast (watch the sky for kingfishers) or take a boat trip to find an island beach to call your own - at least for a few hours. Snorkel the crystal-clear waters off Rabbit Island, hike to the Secret Lake (and explore its mystical caves) or toast the day with a moonlit cruise. Hop onto a bicycle or scooter for a jaunt into the countryside, and head into Kep proper to admire the 'Siren of the Sea', visit the famous crab market and tour the King's Mother's House.
Witness the comeback of one of Cambodia’s most-loved beach escapes and live like a local on the coast.
