This colonial-style home has rustic river-rock walls with dark wood beams and a thatched roof. Set in a fenced-in grassy garden flecked with trees, its elevated setting means you have interrupted river views. Outside is a porch with a furnished lounge and dining table for outdoor meals. Inside, the open-plan kitchen has all the essentials, and the living room is furnished with deep leather sofas and armchairs. Decor is comfortable and warm.
Downstairs are two bedrooms, one with a queen-sized bed, the other with two twin beds, both accessed from the central living area. They're spacious and modern, with high ceilings, plenty of natural light, an en-suite bathroom, and decor that is charmingly country-style warm. The upstairs loft can be accessed from a flight of stairs in the living room. Cosy and well-lit with a few sofas, the room is ideal for children, or as a quiet corner to read.
Activities here are arranged at your pleasure, and guides are flexible when considering the day's schedule. That said, most guests opt for early morning and afternoon drives, beating the heat of the day and catching wildlife when they're most active. Karongwe offers the Big Five, wild dog, giraffe, zebra, kudu and other antelope, and 365 bird species. Night drives are permitted on the property, as well as bush walks. Only children aged six and above are allowed on game drives.
Where the Big Five roam and the mountains tower in the distance, this pint-sized reserve has a lot to offer.
