About Kwandwe Ecca Lodge

An innovatively-designed, cool and airy lodge offering a top-class safari in Kwandwe.
Futuristic, funky and fabulously fun, Ecca Lodge is part of a new generation of ‘young-at-heart’ safari lodges that definitely don’t take themselves too seriously. Designed by Chris Browne, the décor couldn’t be more different to the surrounding (beautiful) bush with enormous Warhol-esque prints, vibrant fabrics and giant sparkling glass walls taking centre stage. With such an emphasis on design, you would be forgiven for thinking that game viewing perhaps wasn’t up to scratch. But fear not! Huge prides of lion, black and white rhino, buffalo, cheetah and many others are prolific and provide superb game viewing in a brilliant, and malaria-free, setting.

Property details

The property

An ultramodern blend of glass, stone and expansive decking (and lots of retro sofas and beanbags), the main area offers jaw-dropping views over the spekboom trees to the glimmering cliffs in the distance. When you’re not distracted by the view, explore the library, art and music collections, play games by the fire or slip into the rim-flow pool to cool off. Meals and mini-bites are served up from the open kitchen whenever and wherever you like and no request is ever too much trouble.

The rooms

The six suites are effortlessly sleek and sexy and with enormous king-size beds atop shiny floors and entire glass walls interspersed in the wood panelling. For some afternoon down-time, slink outside to the deck and take in the view from your private pool or cosy up in a slouchy armchair in the living room. Bathrooms are enormous and feature powerful rain showers and free-standing tubs. And just so you don’t forget that you really are on safari, there are outdoor showers with a view too.

Activities

4WD game drives are conducted twice a day in open vehicles and there’s a good chance of seeing rhino, lion and cheetah. Nature walks and big game walking with expert guides are also available and are an excellent chance to get up close and personal with some of the larger animals of the reserve. For something a bit different, try rhino tracking, a visit to one of the local communities or even fishing or canoeing on the Great Fish River.

Embark on a really special safari experience with the rhino conservation team, even spending time on the ground and in the action - bear in mind, you must be staying for 3 days or longer.

Something to think about

If you're bringing the kids, note that the children's beds are in the lounge area and not in a separate bedroom area, even in the family suites.

The impact of your stay

A portion of the nightly rate at Kwandwe is used as a Conservation & Community Levy. These funds are used to equally support reserve conservation and community development. Over and above the levy, 35% of the accommodation rate paid by guests is allocated towards Kwandwe’s 5 pillars of conservation. Guests engage in activities such as planting spekboom, participating in rhino conservation, visiting community projects, supporting wildlife expansion, and participating in biodiversity research with academic institutions. A contribution of $36 per guest, which is included in the nightly rate, goes towards the above goals.
