The U-shaped villa is set around a central courtyard and all-important swimming pool and there’s a huge veranda and terrace for family get-togethers. Handily, there are plenty of private corners too… Inside, the living area manages to be quirky, elegant and homely all at the same time, with antique furniture offset by playful artwork. The space is dominated by a splendid stone fireplace and a modern, interactive kitchen where you can get as involved (or not!) as you like with the cooking.
The four airy bedroom suites at Melton with their enormous beds and earthy, soothing décor feel very much like a private refuge from the rest of the house. Large windows open out to the bushveld on all sides and the verandas offer the perfect setting to cosy up with a book or enjoy a quiet G&T. There are mini butler hatches for discreet room service and each set of two rooms have interlinking doors, perfect for keeping an eye on the kids.
With a team of private guides and trackers, activities are entirely up to you and at your own pace. Choose from traditional 4x4 game drives, night drives and walks and explore the reserve’s 7000 mammals or mix it up a little with rhino darting or fishing. Kids can take part in treasure hunts, ‘poo safaris’ and even head out on mini warthog-watching adventures without parents. There’s also a conservation club, designed to raise environmental awareness amongst even the youngest visitors.
