There isn’t really one communal main area at the Forest Cottages as they are more often than not booked individually. The swimming pool is shared, but there are always plenty of blue-and-white striped loungers to go around – and plenty of garden space to arrange them in. At one end of the pool, there’s a shady, vine-covered pavilion with a large wooden table, lots of chairs and a braai area - particularly useful if you’re here as a group and want to all eat together.
The eight, Cape-Dutch style Forest Cottages are set in a terraced row on the edge of the forest. All have small kitchens and bedroom-wise, the 5 mezzanine cottages have one double bedroom and a mezzanine room upstairs. Two further two-bedroomed cottages and one blissfully romantic Honeymoon Cottage make up the rest. Thoughtfully restored, their rustic, outdoor appearances hide modern floral prints, crisp white linens and charming bathrooms and the views over the vineyard are magical. Outside, there’s a large shared swimming pool down a small hill, and each cottage has its own outdoor veranda and braai.
Located a mere 10-minute walk from the very heart of Franschhoek there's plenty to indulge in, particularly in the town that is home to an abundance of fantastic and award-winning restaurants. There are quaint galleries, shops filled with interesting crafts and local designer items for house and self. There’s a myriad of wine farms on the doorstep to visit for tastings - hop on the wine tram to see the lot, or hire a driver and travel in style.
