About La Cotte - The Manor House Hotel

One of Franschhoek's oldest estates, La Cotte Manor House is an idyllic little hideaway.
In a quaint corner of the Cape Winelands, La Cotte is known as one of the oldest and loveliest estates in Franschhoek with its pretty, sunlight-dappled cottages, acres of flowering gardens, and bottles of South Africa's finest. There are a number of accommodation options on the property but The Manor House is at the heart. A blend of Cape Dutch to Victorian era architecture, the Santorini-white house offers a little slice of history. After a nibble on the (all-day!) brunch, stroll into town and take in some art, go wine tasting, or simply put your feet up and let your mind wander - there'll be nothing but the twitter of birds and the soft putter of a tractor to distract you...

Property details

The property

In the main house, you'll find a cosy bar to see to your sundowners, as well as a lovely restaurant, which serves farm-to-table dishes - the bobotie is certainly a favourite. The interiors also tell a little of South Africa's history, with delicate South East Asian murals adorning the walls. For an afternoon siesta or tea, the veranda provides padded wicker chairs and incredible mountain views. And outside, enjoy a walk through the pristine vineyard, see the old mill houses, and get lost amongst the ambrosia.

The rooms

There are eight rooms, set apart by their view, which either look onto the mountains or over a sparkling pool. Set in pastoral cottages and decorated in shades from salmon to sage green, each has a high ceiling, fireplace, and an extra-length King bed. The Pool Rooms have access to the heated pool and dining under the trellis. All en-suite bathrooms are monochrome and chic with a free-standing tub, walk-in shower and underfloor heating. There is also a two-bedroom pool house, which has a private pool, kitchen, lounge and an outdoor dining area overlooking the peaks and vines.

Activities

An easy walk into central Franschhoek, there is plenty to do when you're not reclining. Head into town to peruse the Franschhoek Market, Art House and Heritage Square, sampling some of the locally-baked goods on the way. We have no doubt that you'll have wine on the brain and there are a plethora of estates to enjoy a tasting and a tour before tucking into the area's word-class cuisine. An easy way to do so is by hiring a car and driver and hand-picking the route!

The farm is an easy 15 minute-walk from the town, but be prepared to walk back up the hill.
