In the main house, you'll find a cosy bar to see to your sundowners, as well as a lovely restaurant, which serves farm-to-table dishes - the bobotie is certainly a favourite. The interiors also tell a little of South Africa's history, with delicate South East Asian murals adorning the walls. For an afternoon siesta or tea, the veranda provides padded wicker chairs and incredible mountain views. And outside, enjoy a walk through the pristine vineyard, see the old mill houses, and get lost amongst the ambrosia.
There are eight rooms, set apart by their view, which either look onto the mountains or over a sparkling pool. Set in pastoral cottages and decorated in shades from salmon to sage green, each has a high ceiling, fireplace, and an extra-length King bed. The Pool Rooms have access to the heated pool and dining under the trellis. All en-suite bathrooms are monochrome and chic with a free-standing tub, walk-in shower and underfloor heating. There is also a two-bedroom pool house, which has a private pool, kitchen, lounge and an outdoor dining area overlooking the peaks and vines.
An easy walk into central Franschhoek, there is plenty to do when you're not reclining. Head into town to peruse the Franschhoek Market, Art House and Heritage Square, sampling some of the locally-baked goods on the way. We have no doubt that you'll have wine on the brain and there are a plethora of estates to enjoy a tasting and a tour before tucking into the area's word-class cuisine. An easy way to do so is by hiring a car and driver and hand-picking the route!
