The hotel takes shape in the original farmhouses, carefully restored to keep their rustic, old-world charm, yet refined and luxurious at the same time. The garden has large, groomed lawns with modern statues and old trees; shady outdoor patios, a pond flitting with birds, and a sparkling swimming pool. The restaurant combines earthy walls and terracotta-tiled floors with smart furnishings and whimsical art, while the wine bar is chic with low-lighting, and a solid wood counter and stools for tastings.
The nine beautifully decorated suits come in various styles: Luxury Suites sleep two or four (great for families), Exclusive Villas sleep two, and a Junior Studio Suite sleeps two. Each of the rooms has an en-suite bathroom with a shower, deep bathtub, cosy bathrobes and every amenity, including Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, underfloor heating, a mini bar and fireplace. Exclusive Villas are spacious, with ample living room, a private verandah and a plunge pool - and, of course, a magnificent mountain view.
Relax at the pool or work up an appetite playing tennis, exploring the mountain trails, cycling, horse riding or fly-fishing. Wine tours can be formally arranged, or wander between the estates on your own steam (a designated driver is recommended). Confident equestrians may choose to do a wine tour on horseback! Spend an afternoon or evening in Franschhoek town, exploring the numerous bistros and shops, lovely Cape Dutch architecture and Huguenot Museum, which tells the story of the town's founders.
