Both North and South camps have individual thatched central areas for their guests, although South Camp may have the edge with its communal area raised on stilts to improve the view. Both lounges are welcoming, with African artwork and carvings, and plush sofas and chairs that invite you to settle back and admire your surroundings. Each camp also has a swimming pool, recliners and a deck on which meals (expect the best) are often served.

Tents at both North and South Camp have been designed to the same specs. Octagonal in shape and roofed in thatch, they are raised slightly off the ground with views of the lake. The furnishings are sumptuous, with large beds, full-length mirrors, dressers and even a writing desk on the private veranda. The bathroom is an extension of the bedroom, complete with his and hers sinks, an outside shower and hot running water.

Nyerere National Park is one of the best destinations in Africa for out-of-vehicle experiences.
