About Lake Burunge Tented Camp

Lakeside views with a host of wildlife at this luxury camp.
Set in a shaded grove, this fairly large lodge and tented camp combo offers affordable comfort a stone's throw from the impressive Tarangire National Park. Its simple layout and comfortable furniture create a welcoming warmth that is echoed by its friendly staff. Although the lodge’s decor is somewhat lacking in sophistication, it does possess a truly African feel and a homely atmosphere. With mesmerising lake views and the Tarangire National Park just 10 minutes away, over-the-top interiors aren't a necessary feature. The lodge also sits in the wildlife corridor between Lake Manyara and Tarangire so Migration season is a treat!

Property details

The property

The central dining-cum-lounge area is a permanent, open thatched structure built on raised wooden floors with a deck, positioned to make the most of the gorgeous views. The couches and chairs are large and comfortable - a welcome resting spot after a hard day’s game viewing. The dining area offers an informal but romantic candle-lit setting with views of the magnificent lake. There is also a pool for cooling off or washing away the rich dust of a successful game drive.

The rooms

There are ten bungalows and 30 large, comfortable en-suite tents. All the rooms and tents have been built on raised wooden floors to maximise views of the camp’s surrounding beauty. The decor is truly African, with natural materials, fabrics adorned with local motifs, woven baskets and earthy hues. Iron four-poster beds with mosquito netting provide a refuge under which to sleep peacefully. The private veranda has scenic views of the lake, best enjoyed from one of the strategically placed directors’ deck chairs.

Activities

Besides the views of the lake, game drives in the Tarangire National Park are the main attraction. Bush walks in the vicinity showcase the smaller, often forgotten animals and the quiet magic of the surrounding bush. Cultural visits to a local Mbuwbe village provides the opportunity to interact with the friendly locals and and learn about their fascinating culture, customs, traditions and history. Relaxation is also a serious pastime. Watch the setting sun dip into the fiery lake or enjoy the hypnotic shimmer of the moon on its ever changing surface.
