If we could use one sentence to sum up Latitude's delicious interiors, it would be modern African with a seriously funky, cosmopolitan twist. In the lounge and bar, you'll find velvet armchairs and old leather trunks sandwiched next to feathered hats and beaded cushions, complemented by an excellent selection of gin and a team of smiling barmen. The restaurant is modern Mediterranean, both in style and cuisine. Outside, the swimming pool is flanked by crisp white loungers, umbrellas and pretty gardens to wander in.
32 en-suite double bedrooms are spread out across the two floors of the hotel, each with a king sized bed (or twins), TV, espresso machine and minibar, complete with crisp South African wines. Calming and chilled, the decor is in tones of grey, blue and copper, with a few arty pieces strewn around the walls. In the bathroom, you'll find an enormous tub, rain shower and double sinks and some rather sweet-smelling toiletries too.
At the hotel is a very decently equipped gym, available to all guests. If relaxing is more your style, there's also a spa service with a simple but good selection of treatments to send you into a pampered oblivion, or order tea and cakes in the bar and sit back with a good book. For explorers, ask the hotel to book a car for a guided tour of the city, or pop down the road to Sugarbush Farm, for a look at the local textiles and crafts.
The commercial heart of the copper country, Lusaka is a quirky and perfectly ‘African’ capital city.
