In the hotel, there’s a cosy, Delft-decorated bar for evening sundowners or a post-dinner something, as well as a light and bright Garden Room where breakfast is served. Room service is also an option, but we highly recommend popping down for brekkie at least once; with colour-matched fruit salads, freshly baked pastries and a decadent hot menu, it really is a breakfast fit for a King. The large swimming pool is surrounded by teak loungers and offers the perfect spot for some R&R and of course, there’s the marvellous La Petite Colombe restaurant, one of the best in the village.
There are 32 rooms at LQF and all are gorgeous, thoughtfully designed and really quite hard to leave. The Le Quartier Rooms are set in the blooming rose and jasmine garden around the main swimming pool, whilst the suites are set in their own private courtyard. Deluxe suite go one step further with their own mini swimming pools (perfect for honeymooners or families) and then there’s the LQF villa, a three-bedroom, home away from home a few steps away from the main hotel. Perfect little luxuries include rich Egyptian cottons, Nespresso machines, under-floor heating and DVD libraries.
Franschhoek is surrounded by some of the country’s best vineyards with each one offering a variety of wine tastings and, of course, sumptuous food. Take the hotel’s chauffeur driven car and explore as many as you can squeeze in. Also on offer from LQF is a wonderful guided hike through the mountains and a walking tour of the village – a stop off at the chocolatier is highly recommended! Otherwise, hop over to neighbouring Leeu Estates (there are free transfers between the two properties) and wander in the gardens admiring the sculptures, enjoy an Afternoon Tea, or visit the wine studio.
