Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge

The three-tented communal area is dominated by dramatic hills and boulders, with extraordinary views from the bar, sitting and dining areas, swimming pool and decks. Guests can enjoy fresh, imaginative meals in camp or in the bush. Afternoon tea is served before your game drive and, at sunset, you can enjoy cocktails on a koppie overlooking the Isuria escarpment. There's no need to forego your beauty/massage treatments – a separate tent in the wild houses the peaceful Melengali Spa.

Fifteen glass-fronted tents sleep a total of 35 guests in spacious comfort. Each tent has net-draped twin or super-king beds (watch for the cleverly folded towel and scroll recording a Bushman story provided each evening ), an en-suite bathroom with a flush toilet, running water, shower and freestanding bath, and a deck with a private plunge pool and unbeatable views. There's 24-hour solar-powered electricity and internet access.

The guided game drives reveal excellent sightings of birds, lion, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, ostrich, wildebeest and more wildebeest all year. (The migration takes place between June and October.) Foot safaris are also offered. For children older than six years, there's a range of special activities – spear-throwing with (blunt) spears, using a bow and arrow with the Maasai, making plaster casts of the spoor of nocturnal creatures, listening to African fables or sharing cooking lessons with the amiable chefs.
