About Lemala Mara Camp

A seasonal tented bush camp in Tanzania’s game-rich northern Serengeti.
Lemala Mara is a semi-permanent tented camp in northern Tanzania which operates between June and October. Its location is carefully chosen to coincide with the peak of the Great Wildebeest Migration that passes through the area at this time of year, following the rains. The magnificent Mara River is just a stone’s throw from camp; witness one of nature’s most exciting spectacles as the endless herds plunge into the crocodile-infested waters in their quest for fresh grazing. Expect an authentic safari experience with low-key luxuries which complement the wild and remote location, and superb game viewing.

Property details

The property

The main guest tent sits on a wide timber platform, with a comfortable lounge on one side, a dining area on the other, and a cosy bar separating the two. There’s also a small library and a curio shop, with battery charging facilities for electronic devices. The interior is elegant and stylish: leather couches, sparkling chandeliers, beautifully hand-crafted wooden furniture, and plush carpets create a pleasantly luxurious feel without losing the authentic and remote bush camp character.

The rooms

Twelve spacious tents on wooden platforms are set in lines of six on either side of the mess tent, one of which can accommodate a family of five. Interiors are fairly simple, with warm earthy tones brightened by colourful throws and cushions. Canvas window panels can be rolled up to catch the breeze, and there’s a covered veranda in front - a great spot to relax between game drives. Ensuite bathrooms have bucket showers, with hot water on request.

Activities

Twice-daily game drives into the wildlife-rich Serengeti offer superb game viewing, and the camp is carefully located to catch the highlights of the annual Wildebeest Migration. Witness the spectacular Mara River crossings, take a picnic and stay out all day to follow the herds, and explore on foot to discover the smaller aspects of the wilderness. Big cat sightings are excellent, and the region is also renowned for its huge herds of elephant, buffalo, and abundant plains game.
