Property details

The property

The canvas mess tent is the heart of the camp, with a large mahogany dining table on one side, where guests gather in the evenings to swap crater tales from the day, and 2 grand sofas and old chests filled with books and magazines at the other. Brightly coloured rugs adorn the floors and the bar is a charming antique cabinet with a help-yourself policy. Solar power provides consistent and sustainable electricity and you'll even find internet connectivity in the lounge and bar. Nestled in an acacia forest, the camp overlooks surrounding highlands and, when the mist lifts in the morning, it’s a breathtaking sight.

The rooms

The tents at Lemala offer you an intimate wilderness experience that seamlessly integrates comfortable accommodation with adventure excursions to see the local fauna, flora, and the famous Ngorongoro Crater. In the tents, a canvas screen separates a mini dressing area and bathroom. For families or groups, a two-bedroom tent is the newest addition to the camp. It does get cold near the crater rim but the tents at Lemala are well-suited to keep out the chill, with thick, snuggly duvets and portable heaters. After a hot shower, wrap yourself in soft towels and fluffy robes.

Activities

The star of the show is of course the Ngorongoro Crater and activities focus on game drives on the stunning crater floor, where the wildlife is diverse and the game-viewing phenomenal. Another bonus of the tented camp is that most people travel with their own guides, so activity times are entirely flexible and totally up to you. There’s also some lovely opportunities for cultural experiences with the Masai in the nearby village and guided walks.
