The spacious main area is open-sided beneath high thatched ceilings, with superb views of the river. A comfortable lounge, bar and dining room feature solid locally made furniture and traditional African carvings, with two fireplaces for chilly winter evenings. There is also a curio shop and a cosy library. Stairs lead from the riverside deck to two split-level viewing platforms that look out across Lianshulu Lagoon, and there is a small swimming pool set back from the water’s edge.
Eleven spacious timber and thatch bungalows are set out along the river beneath the shady riverine forest canopy. Decor is simple and naturally inspired, with light neutral colours and comfortable furniture made from locally sourced timber. Huge sliding glass doors open out to a private deck, with captivating views of the river flowing past and Botswana on the other side. Each has an en-suite bathroom, and three of the bungalows have a bath in addition to indoor and outdoor showers.
Game-viewing activities focus on the Kwando River and the surrounding Mudumu National Park, with guided walks, nature drives and boat safaris. Although this isn’t one of Africa's top wildlife viewing areas, guests can expect to see a variety of general game, including elephant, hippo and crocodile along the river, large herds of buffalo, and abundant birdlife. Catch-and-release fishing is offered, and visits to the Lizauli traditional village provide a cultural insight into local lifestyles.
The ‘finger’ that touches Vic Falls is a luscious region with several unexplored but worthy parks.
