About Lilayi Lodge

Escape from the bustle of Lusaka into this tranquil reserve on the outskirts of the city.
Lilayi Lodge falls within a 650-hectare farm which holds miles of indigenous bushveld and private game reserve, 15km south of Zambia's capital city, Lusaka. For more than 100 years, the Miller family who run the farm, have lived in the original farmhouse that has now been declared a national monument. The original commercial farming activities still take place including barley crops that are used in the production of Zambia's famous beer - Mosi. In 1989, wildlife was also introduced and Lilayi Lodge and Game Farm was born. With 25 different species of mammals and over 300 bird species, there's reason to go beyond Zambia's big attractions like Victoria Falls, and savour some easy-going bush life.

Property details

The property

A voluminous, thatched-roof ceiling and central reed chandelier are the focal points of the spacious dining room. The bar and lounge are sophisticated yet homely, with a touch of Zambian creativity and a series of sumptuous couches to recline in, opening up to an outside dining area where you can spot approaching animal visitors. Amid the lush gardens is a large pool surrounded by wicker loungers and sunbeds where you can catch a good glimpse of antelope coming right up for a graze.

The rooms

Simply designed to mesh with the environment, 10 Deluxe and 2 Family chalets are spread across the farm grounds, with immersive bush views. Open-plan inside and circular in shape thanks to their rondavel brick walls, the smell of the thatched roofing adds to the farm ambience. With tasteful and contemporary furnishings in neutral shades, a lounge opens up through folding bay windows to a private wooden deck and verandah, shielded from neighbours by bamboo slats. All rooms are en-suite (and boast a spacious bath and shower) with satellite TV and Wi-Fi, plus a trusty bar fridge.

Activities

There is a plethora of game viewing options for you at the lodge. Daily game drives, guided walks or even horseback safaris are just some of the ways you can view the giraffe, roan antelope, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, tsessebe and other plains game that roams the park.

Zambia

Lusaka

The commercial heart of the copper country, Lusaka is a quirky and perfectly ‘African’ capital city.
