Guests at Loisaba tend to eat together every evening and there’s a main dining and social area with lots of soft leather coaches for late-night chatter and chess and checker sets for siesta socialising. The walls, floors and furnishings are all made with materials found in the surrounds and the room is also perched on stilts (like the bedrooms) to have as little impact on the environment as possible.
The Starbeds are handcrafted, wooden platforms, partially covered with thatch. All have been designed to blend perfectly into the wild landscape and that they do – you won’t even notice your neighbours! A uniquely designed ‘bed on wheels’ is the centrepiece of each platform and can be wheeled onto the deck, making a true al-fresco bedroom. Mosquito nets keep the bugs at bay (but don’t hinder the views) and the ensuite bathrooms have solar-powered hot water and flush toilets.
Although star-gazing is one of the big attractions, there’s plenty more to keep you occupied at the Starbeds! Morning and evening game drives allow you the chance to spot roaming wildlife and if you fancy digging deeper into the flora and fauna, walks are guided by traditional Samburu tribesmen who know the area by heart. Visitors can also trek through the bush with camels, mountain bike down the escarpment, or horseback-ride through the wild canyons of the two great rivers that span the property.
Loisaba Starbeds is owned by Elewana collection which are rooted in the concept of harmony, as reflected in their Kiswahili-inspired name. Through the Land & Life Foundation, Elewana is dedicated to fostering the sustainable coexistence between communities and wildlife across East Africa. Shanga, an initiative under the foundation, empowers individuals with disabilities through artistic expression and economic opportunities, epitomising Elewana's commitment to authentic experiences and positive impact.
