About Lupita Island

Remote and luxurious escape, for those chasing the decisive island adventure.
At the southern end of the magnificent Lake Tanganyika, the lush 110-acre private escape of Lupita island can be found. Between the rocky outcrops and dense indigenous forest, the resort may appear small in size, but packs a punch with five star service and sun soaked bliss. Designed to blend in with the environment, seek out privacy and seclusion in your panoramic traditionally-styled villas or around the firelight Boma on the sandy shores by night. The area is hopefully set to become a marine park in the future, which is fantastic for this truly spectacular piece of a Tanzanian natural utopia.

Property details

The property

Lupita's main lounge and dining area boasts panoramic views of the natural surrounds. Cheerful hues of oranges, reds and greens offset against high ceilinged thatch and open sides. A traditional hull of a wooden dhow serves as the romantically atmospheric bar, lit by Arabic lanterns and decorated with eclectic artefacts. Comfortable lounge chairs are the perfect vantage points for taking in the surrounds. An outdoor pool tucked further behind the main lodge, affords privacy amongst the trees.

The rooms

Spread out across walkways that stretched around the island are 11 cottages and two family suites. Each has a private plunge pool, open air sides, graciously spacious and the real highlight-a sunken bath and hot waterfall shower outside with outstanding vistas over the lake and beyond. Uniquely crafted using locally sourced material and designed with luxury and comfort in mind, Persian rugs and plush lounge areas accentuated with pops of Tanzanian. The Livingstone and Stanley suites have the option of private dining.

Activities

Exploring the island and surrounds is a must. Take an hour walk to the nearby local villages where you can interact and learn from the two traditional fishing villages that call the adjoining island home. Another highlight will be snorkelling in the waters around the lake which you can do by kayak or from the boughs of the Winsor Rose, a 46ft catamaran. High on the hilltop with some spectacular views is their spa with a wellness center including a gym.
