In the lush gardens, you'll find a saltwater pool edged with loungers under wide-brimmed umbrellas and awnings draped in greenery. Dining takes place at Le Terrace de Lotus with menus of fish amok (one of Cambodia's most famous dishes) and coconut desserts, plus breakfasts served at the boat-shaped buffet table. Across the lotus pond hung with wooden lanterns, the outdoor lounge quenches your thirst with locally-inspired cocktails of kampot pepper, holy basil and ginger. The open-air spa pavilion offers a lovely Khmer massage and in a scenic spot on the grounds, there's meditation with a monk.
The intimate resort has 10 air-conditioned rooms decorated in warm textiles, local furniture and richly-woven rugs. The Lotus rooms are upstairs and decorated in a heritage style and enjoy an airy balcony; while the Frangipani rooms are on the ground floors and open onto a garden terrace. With the option of double or twin beds, each room has a lounge area with a mini bar, TV, kettle (with a selection of infusion teas) and large wardrobe. The bathrooms are classic and well-kept with a shower, marble countertops and large floral arrangements.
Explore the countryside on two wheels as you cycle past monasteries and paddy fields, before watching how rice wine is made. Learn about the country's turbulent past at the Well of Shadows and the caves of Phnom Sampeu. Learn to cook like a Cambodian at a local restaurant and watch as nature puts on a show at the Bat Cave (preferably with something cold in hand). Hike to the ancient Banan Temple where you can spot the crocodile-shaped mountain across the valley on clear days.
Rural and lovely, let Battambang tempt with its pretty buildings and laidback scenes.
