About Mala Mala Main Camp

An original South African safari lodge that's still delivering the goods!
With its treasure chest of wildlife, including almost daily sightings of the Big Five, Mala Mala is the ultimate destination for a photographic safari. In fact, in this 130 square-kilometre private reserve within the Greater Kruger Park, it's not uncommon to experience four separate leopard sightings in one day! At Mala Mala, you’ll explore the reserve on morning and evening game drives, uninterrupted by other vehicles. Later, there’s time to relax around the crackling fire and share the day's sightings with other guests, dine on excellent cuisine, lose yourself in the inky, star-studded night sky and dream the night away in the luxurious but unpretentious accommodation.

Property details

The property

Walking into the main area is like entering the home of a good friend. The comfortable lounge seating, convivial dining area and bar promise good companionship. In the air-conditioned library (affectionately known as the Monkey Club), you can watch satellite TV or surf the net. Outside, shaded by a large jackalberry tree, the veranda overlooks the Sand River and the endless parade of wildlife.

The rooms

Pathways wind along the perimeter of the camp to reveal individual ochre-coloured units tucked into the greenery that flanks the Sand River. The 10 luxury suites (including a fully equipped disabled suite) and eight luxury rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished in easy-on-the-eye bushveld colours, all under thatch roofs. His and her bathrooms and dressing rooms make you feel spoilt, and picture windows overlooking the bush and river keep your eyes trained on the animals.

Activities

Keep your camera primed for the phenomenal wildlife sightings you'll experience on both morning and evening game drives, all accompanied by experienced guides who have a thorough knowledge of the area and its inhabitants. Escape the heat in the infinity pool, keep trim at the gym, visit the safari boutique, dine on five-star cuisine, sip fine South African wines around the evening fire, gaze at the stars and sleep surrounded by the unforgettable sounds of the African bush.
