About Mala Mala Sable Camp

Small camp, big heart
The famous Mala Mala Game Reserve is connected to two of South Africa's most game-rich reserves by unfenced borders. The wildlife in Kruger National Park and Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve roams freely between these great wilderness areas. The lodge itself is smaller and more intimate compared to other nearby Mala Mala camps. Its elevated position grants views across the lazy Sand River and game viewing is often done from the comfort of the deck—G&T in hand. Unless it's a private group, there will never be more than 14 guests at the camp at one time. Guests are therefore free to simply take in the wilderness around them.

Property details

The property

The African themed bar and dining room is where most socialising takes place and guests can pull their dinner tables together or dine in private. The library allows for quiet time or to watch the news on the satellite television as well as strong internet connectivity. The shady deck overlooks the steady flow of wildlife at the Sand River’s edge. End the night off on the leather recliners, in front of the fireplace, a whiskey in hand and two magnificent elephant tusks suspended above.

The rooms

The five thatched luxury suites walk out onto grassy front lawns where bushbuck often graze. African artwork colour the walls, that reach up to the high, peaked ceilings. Rooms are comfortable without being overly grand and guests won't feel guilty leaving their socks on the floor. His and hers bathrooms provide both privacy and a hint of luxury. The Lion's Den Suite features two en suite bedrooms connected by a large living area.

Activities

The main reason guests visit Mala Mala is to get out and see the Big Five and other roaming wildlife. Morning and afternoon game drives are filled with action, beauty and inspiration. Apart from game viewing and long afternoon naps, guests can also laze in the swimming pool, found not beside the lodge but below it in the surrounding flood plain. Elephants are known to stroll by often. A gym is found at the nearby main camp.
