About Mara Riding Safaris

The famous Mara riding experience
If you were to imagine the most perfect horseback scene, galloping across Kenya's vast plains, throngs of wildebeest and zebra by your side, you would have a pretty good idea of what OffBeat's Masai Mara riding safari is like. Operating since 1990, Offbeat has a reputation for providing the top horseback safaris in Africa, and this seven-day adventure in and around the Mara is no exception. Ride out amongst buffalo and elephant in the Mara Triangle, navigate the crevices of the Olololol Escarpment and enjoy the views over the entire Mara Ecosystem, and track lion in the Mara North Conservancy. Quite simply, the adventure of a lifetime.

Property details

The property

Accommodation on a Mara riding safari is in an entirely mobile and very comfortable camp. Manned by an expert team of staff, the camp will be whipped down (and up again!) and fully set up ahead of your arrival in each different spot. Campsites are secluded and beautiful, but will vary depending on the route you follow on your ride. A highlight of the day must be dinner, home-cooked and hearty, enjoyed around the campfire with your fellow riders...

The rooms

The sleeping tents are large canvas havens, with comfortable beds inside and washing areas at the front. Showers are in separate canvas tents, with hot water on request. Simple but comfortable, with everything you need and nothing you don't, is definitely the name of the game here.

Activities

Days are spent in the saddle, riding across the plains to new locations, each more spectacular than the one before. Expect to ride for anything between 4 and 6 hours each day, broken up with scenic picnic lunches in the wilderness. You can also vary your game viewing (and rest saddle sore legs!) with game drives and walking safaris, depending on where you are in the Mara ecosystem. Evenings are for relaxing by the campfire, listening to the local guides as they recount stories from the bush.
