Travel writer Bill Aitken described this area as having the best viewpoint of the Himalayas that you could wish for, and the scenery is undeniably wow-inducing. Enjoy the vistas from various 'sit out' points sprinkled around the grounds and on days when the weather's just right, you even have high tea on your platform. Meals are always something to look forward to. Prepared with seasonal produce and juicy vegetables from the kitchen garden, the tandoor evening in front of the bonfire is a highlight.
Choose between two cottage options: the original Mary Budden Cottage which sleeps six, or the newly built Rhododenderon Cottage that sleeps eight. The Mary Budden maintains a beautiful, old world charm and it's thrilling to sleep within the history of the estate,. Rhododenderon has a style that's in keeping with its sister, but with the addition of view-framing windows, a library, courtyard and front porch. Both are cosy, refined and have fireplaces in every room to keep any chills away.
Guided walks through the surrounding wildlife sanctuary are a must during a stay. Keep your eyes peeled for the rarer beasts that roam the middle Himalayan terrain - leopard and barking deer spring to mind - but also the colourful birds and curious flora. You can also enjoy cookery classes and yoga sessions, as well as day trips to the nearby temples.
The hills are alive with the sound of music in this alpine utopia of high-altitude treks and villages.
