Each and every space at Mashpi was designed to let in the delicious views, from the Explorers' Bar (try their spicy guava margarita) to the panoramic terrace where hummingbirds, toucans and other splendid species flitter by. The high-ceilinged dining room serves an Ecuadorian menu that changes nightly and features ingredients foraged straight from the forest. At the spa, enjoy an array of nature-inspired treatments from volcanic stone massages to organic chocolate body wraps. And for the ultimate view, head up the 8-storey observation tower.
Mashpi Lodge has 24 rooms spread across three levels, some with scenic views of the forest floor and others with ethereal canopy views, both of which can be enjoyed through the enormous floor-to-ceiling windows. Rooms are Scandinavian in style, with little to distract you from the immersive jungle beyond, and make a cooling respite with their humidity control systems. The Yaku Suites are the largest and enjoy massive bathtubs separated by a bamboo screen.
At the lodge, visit the eight-storey observation tower and discover the tranquil hummingbird garden and butterfly-filled Life Centre. In the Mashpi Reserve, there are over two dozen hiking trails, perfect for meanderings amongst rare birdlife, dazzling flora and other endemic species. There's even a night time walk for the those with steel nerves. For something different, pedal through the clouds and over the gorge on a tandem Sky Bike, or cool off in one of the many waterfalls.
