About Masuwe Safari Lodge

Iconic Vic Falls and African wildlife at your doorstep
You have the best of both worlds here at Masuwe Lodge – access to Victoria Falls ("the smokes that thunders") and accommodation in an peaceful bush sanctuary. Reopened just two years ago by its original owners, Masuwe squats high on a hill, overlooking a waterhole and the Masuwe River, and with views across the tree canopy. From here, it's just 15 minutes by road to Victoria Falls National Park and its eponymous town, where you're close to some of life's most adrenalin-fuelled activities – river rafting, helicopter flights, bungee jumping, gorge swinging, and more.

Property details

The property

Recently renovated by its original owners, Masuwe retains its classic feel with deeply peaked thatched roofs, stone walls, plenty of wood, and gorgeous mature gardens. It sits on a forested hill near the Masuwe River, and is surrounded by natural bush that's home to a modest number of wildlife. Under cover is the open-plan lounge and dining room (where meals are generous and delicious). The large outdoor deck with hypnotic views is perfect for sundowners, and the pool is cool.

The rooms

Nine Wilderness Tents of thatch and canvas are perfect for couples, with king or twin-bed configurations. Charming and comfortable, they have furnished decks and spacious stone bathrooms. The thatch-and-stone Hide-Away Suite caters for all romantics, with its outdoor bathtub for two. Travelling with kids? The double-storey Family Nest has a master bedroom and private lounge (with fabulous views) upstairs, and another en-suite bedroom, common living area and kitchenette on the lower floor. Outside is a private plunge pool and BBQ.

Activities

Activities in the area tend to focus on Victoria Falls and the chasm into which they plunge. Bungee jumping, river rafting, gorge swinging and a dip in Devil's Pool (on the edge of the falls) – attract adrenalin junkies. Back at the lodge, take a game drive of its private sanctuary to see elephant, giraffe, waterbuck, monkeys, and more. Cool off in the pool, take sundowners or gaze at the views from the deck – and eat very, very well.

Insiders tip

Insiders Tip

While Vic Falls has some pretty colonial features, staying just outside offers a good degree more serenity amidst a natural setting.
Something to think about

Something to think about

Although wildlife roams the property, Masuwe doesn't quite have the wild edge of a true bush bush lodge.
