Mawimbi is a bespoke and exclusive lodge situated in the heart of the Kafue National Park, one of Zambia's finest parks. It's the perfect getaway spot, unhurried and far from civilisation. The tents are large and comfortable, the people are friendly and the surroundings are sublime. On the animal and bird front, there's lots to focus your lens on and plenty of ways to view them too, both on land and water. And when you're not exploring Kafue by boat, sit back and watch the light dancing off its ever-changing surface. Magical.

The thatched main dining and lounge area is located to make the most of the river views on one side, and a well-visited waterhole on the other. The meals are fresh and delicious, the staff are helpful, and the guides know the area and its creatures intimately. No internet and cellphone coverage is available (hurrah!).
Three large and beautifully-appointed canvas tents are privately situated among the trees, each with two comfy beds. The outdoor en-suite bathrooms are enormous constructions, walled with reeds, and complete with basin, "green" toilet and bath or bucket shower with hot water on request. There's also a private veranda overlooking the river – great for settling back to view the game. The tents are fully mosquito proofed.
Boating is the principal attraction, and it's easy to see why – the variety of habitats and gorgeous scenery is fabulous. Not fond of being waterborne? Wilderness game walks are held every morning and afternoon are a must for all lovers of the African bush.. There's plenty to keep birdwatchers happy too.

A magical landscape on an epic scale where cheetah and lion roam free, yet tourists rarely visit.
