Mazike Valley Lodge

A soaring thatched roof shelters the open-plan lounge, dining area and bar, with views of the landscape reaching to the dramatic Rwenzori Mountains in the distance. The small, sheltered swimming pool in the gardens is perfect for a post-trek plunge. The meals are good, wholesome fare made using produce from the lodge’s garden, and you really shouldn't pass up the chance to enjoy Uganda’s locally grown coffee. in the evenings, tap your toes in time with the flamboyant traditional dancers.

Eight self-contained bandas are set in the gardens, each completely unique in shape, size, style and furnishings. All are spacious and comfortable, with double or twin beds, en-suite bathrooms, hot and cold running water, electricity, wi-fi and, of course, lovely views.

Chimpanzee trekking is the main activity in Kyambura Gorge, with tours taking 1–3 hours. Take a guided game drive or a boat trip along the Kazinga Channel to see lion, elephant and buffalo, large populations of crocodile and hippo, and unusual antelope species such as Ugandan kob. Birdwatching is out of this world, and this is one of the best spots to view the bizarre African shoebill. Explore the rainforests and the spectacular crater lakes, or visit a local community.
