Arriving at the lodge via a suspended foot bridge is quite the entrance, and the charm doesn't end there! The main area is a high-ceilinged construction, with marbled concrete flooring and a myriad of tree trunks, twisting their way through the floor and around the sofas and armchairs. Cool off from a game drive in the outdoor pool overlooking the river, the sound of hippos in your ear and a G&T in hand.

Spacious and really quite contemporary, the eight chalets are perfectly positioned for the best views over the Shire River wherever you are, be it the sunken bathtub, the outdoor rain shower or the enormous bed. Soft, earthy tones and locally crafted tables and chairs mirror the leadwood and wild mango trees outside, and the sloping, vegetated roofs successfully blend the chalets into the surroundings and keeps things cool when the temperature rises. Outside, two directors chairs on the private deck make a perfect river-watching spot during siesta time.

Game drives and walking safaris are offered in the mornings and late afternoons, and both can yield sightings of the Big Five, as well as sable, eland and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest. River cruises amongst the snorting hippo are also offered, and for the more laid back, the large viewing deck and pool at camp is perfect for some shady time out. Community visits to the nearby villages can also be arranged, if it's a spot of culture you're looking for.
