Enjoy siesta time in the elegant lounge, decorated with monochrome wildlife prints, thick rugs and old-school explorer's regalia. Inside the main thatched area, there are full English breakfasts, long-as-you-like lunches, high teas, and generous dinners at Medium Rare, which offers tasty options for carnivores. Or choose to 'rough it' with dinner round the campfire - you'll still have linen napkins origami-ed to perfection! Outside, the terrace has rows of loungers and hanging nest chairs beside the freeform pool.
There are 18 rooms along Moditlo's winding walkways. Large beds are draped in Percale linens and fuzzy grey throws, and wide windows let in a stunning sunrise view. The open-plan bathrooms have shuttered wardrobes, organic toiletries, and a freestanding tub and separate shower, perfecting for gazing out over the bush. The mini bar is well-stocked and there is a coffee station for morning brews on the private patio, or in some cases, the cosy sitting area.
In these parts, there are vistas and wildlife that truly amaze. Depart on early morning or late afternoon game drives (complete with the drinks of your choice) to spot members of the Big Five, crocodiles, cheetah and the African painted dog. Explore the Panorama Route, so named for its sweeping valleys and amazing views, cruise the Blyde River Canyon by boat or take to the skies in a hot air balloon.
Modest in size but not in wildlife, Kapama is perfect for a laidback safari in very capable hands.
