About Mpala Jena Camp

Ultimate tented luxury on a private concession that's close to Victoria Falls.
Victoria Falls is amongst one of the most dramatic and iconic scenes on Earth. Here, the Zambezi River rushes over a 1.2 kilometre wide gorge, deafening and stomach-stirring till it hits the bottom, 111 metres down. Mpala Jena Camp is just a short drive upstream from this spectacle, in a private concession in Zimbabwe's Zambezi National Park. The four exquisite tents are surrounded by wilderness and wildlife, offering a sophisticated base from which to explore the concession and all its four-legged creatures, as well as the Falls. And at 16 kilometres inside the park, it's a tranquil sort of place, where nothing will disturb your peace and quiet but the twitterings of the birds overhead..

Property details

The property

Brand-new and superbly-sophisticated, Mpala Jena has an innovative and sustainable footprint, and is constructed from recycled hardwoods and entirely solar-powered. With Moroccan influences and an unfussy approach to decor, the style is minimalist and elegant, perfectly complementing the stunning views of the surroundings. The main area has plenty of lounging space; cushioned chaises are strewn with throw pillows and there's a large deck with front-row seats to the Zambezi River and all its attendant wildlife - hordes of birds, elephant and hippo, amongst others.

The rooms

Four tents are strung along the river's edge within the cooling shade of the forest. All are elevated above the flowing water and framed by a wooden deck that's complete with a delectable plunge pool and perfectly-placed sun-loungers. Inside, creamy flowing canvas and canopied ceilings feel luxurious and warm whilst north-African influences add a touch of the exotic. King-size beds are positioned to look straight out of the vast (netted) windows, and you'll also find a small lounge area and a huge bathroom with bathtub and shower.

Activities

There are a myriad of activities on offer at Mpala. Firstly, Victoria Falls - from trips to the waterfall itself, scenic chopper flights, bungee jumping and gorge swinging, to sunset cruises and picnic lunches on private islands, the list is almost endless. Camp staff are always on hand to help you organise and prioritise and make the most of your time too. And don't forget the wildlife-dotted concession either where you can game drive or walk across the iconic landscapes, binos in hand, or take to the water for a fishing trip, canoe excursion or boat cruise.

What you'll love

This is Zimbabwe done in serious style, and undoubtedly one of the most luxurious and exquisite lodges in the area (and perhaps even southern Africa).
Insiders tip

Insiders Tip

The mighty Victoria Falls might be the highlight of this area, but the game viewing in the park is definitely on the up - and lion, buffalo and elephant are well-represented.
Something to think about

Something to think about

You’re still a fair distance from Victoria Falls, so we’d advise at least two or three nights here – it’s not a quick stopover kind of place.

A contribution of $30 per guest, which is included in the nightly rate, goes towards the above goals.
