Naankuse Lodge

The main lodge area sits on a rocky outcrop overlooking a rugged canyon, with far-reaching views over the bush and mountains beyond. A huge lounge and dining room with a circular glass front looks across the canyon, and there’s a second thatched dining area and bar with open sides for a more informal venue. A large swimming pool in front of the lodge gardens has a sun terrace, and lovely views over the reserve.

Accommodation consists of six lavishly decorated, en-suite, rock and stucco chalets with huge twin or king sized beds, opulent mohair throws, raw timber beams and a rustic ethnic design which blends beautifully with the desert landscape. All have air-conditioning and private verandas. A further eight spacious villas have a more rustic feel, with two, three or four bedrooms, perfect for families. The villas have a fully equipped self-catering kitchen, a comfortable lounge and dining area, and air-conditioning.

Part wildlife rehabilitation centre, part game reserve, Naankuse offers scenic walking safaris, encounter several species of rehabilitated mammals, and bush lore outings with the San Bushmen. Horse riding for all levels of expertise is possible in the predator-free sections of the reserve. There’s also the unique opportunity to head out after an early dinner to spend time around a campfire with members of the San community, listen to their traditional fables, and watch an authentic dance display.
