Nambwa Tented Lodge

The central guest tent sits up on a large deck and consists of an elegant dining room and bar, and a separate lounge with roll-down sides. The interior is spacious and beautifully furnished, with comfortable armchairs and couches, coconut mats and animal skins on the wooden floors, and a calm, natural feel in keeping with the wilderness outside. A circular lower deck has an outdoor lounge around an open fire pit, and fabulous views of the waterhole and surrounding floodplains.

Ten spacious tented suites are linked to the main lodge along a system of raised timber walkways, which are high enough to allow elephant to pass beneath as they meander through camp - thrilling game watching indeed! The bedroom interiors are beautifully decorated in soft tones of stone and cream, with a small lounge area, a huge bed beneath a canopy of mosquito nets, and a freestanding bathtub, glass-walled shower and a separate toilet. Each tent has a private deck overlooking the river or the waterhole.

The safari activities at Nambwa focus on guided game drives, both day and night, bush walks, and river cruises when the water levels are high enough. During the dry season, expect to see large herds of elephant drawn to the river, roan antelope and eland, and perhaps a shy sitatunga along the reed-fringed waterways. Predators include lion, leopard, spotted hyena, and the exciting possibility of encountering rare African wild dogs. Birdwatching is superb all year round, particularly along the riverbanks.
