The guest's version of a waterhole would have to be the community log cabin which gives a new meaning to a 'room with a view'. The large panoramic windows are perfect for watching the sunset - and any animals that might wander by - while enjoying a sundowner cocktail or two. And since there is no electricity, enjoy a hearty meal in a warm, glowing atmosphere created by candles and lanterns before having a nightcap under the stars.
Each of the semi-private, nine cabins has an ensuite bathroom with a hot water shower, a large bedroom and a spacious deck onto which your double bed can be wheeled for a blissful night under the stars. For chilly nights, extra bedding can be provided. Indulging in a hot drink and a few rusks while watching the morning sun stretch over the dunes from the deck has got to be one of the best ways to start any day.
Imagine you are travelling through time as you cross the miles of sand where only three types of vegetation and a handful of animals across 10 000 hectares of land can be found. Explore the acacias, occasional !Nara shrubs with their melon-like fruit and patches of grass that might attract the zebras, springbok, orxy, ostriches, hyenas, jackals and if you're particularly lucky, a giraffe or two. Walking is the name of the game here - and sunrise and sunset are the times to do it.
