A lodge that lives up to its name, Namib Outpost lies in a remote location at Sossusvlei, in the southern Namib. There are 12 cabins, all beautifully decorated with private shaded sundecks, aircon (temperatures can reach upwards of 40 degrees Celsius during the day), mosquito nets, en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, a refrigerator and access to a small roof terrace for sleeping outdoors. The views are wonderful, even from the loo, which faces a large window overlooking the desert. (Your privacy is ensured!) For real solitude, opt for the Superior Unit, which stands apart from the others.
