About Neptune Ngorongoro Lodge

Luxurious log-cabins on the rim of a famous crater with wildlife sightings to remember.
Looking for luxury you can actually afford? Neptune Ngorongoro, one of the last properties on the main road from Karatu to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, has been climbing the charts as one of the best and most affordable luxury lodges in the area. Although not within the park, the lodge sits in 50 acres (20,200 hectares) of virgin bush on the crater's edge, with breathtaking views of the mountains to the west. It's just a short drive to the entrance gate and down to the grassy floor with its legendary wildlife. The lodge has created a winning combination of a great location, quaint log-cabin accommodation and fantastic facilities.

The property

The Acacia Restaurant is a formal dining room with an outdoor terrace, which serves buffet meals as well as à la carte options combining Mediterranean and local cuisine. Atmospheric dinners at the pool or in the bush can also be arranged. For post-safari drinks, there's a bar, and a swimming pool with a sundeck to enjoy the views, and the pamper centre – the Earth & Rain Spa.

The rooms

There are 20 roomy and private log-cabin suites. Each has a viewing terrace, an open fireplace, attractive wood-beamed ceilings, comfortable seating and dining areas and a mosquito-netted bed to dream the night away, interrupted only by the sounds of the bush.

Activities

Take daily game drives and guided nature walks into the crater. Arrange a tour to Lake Manyara National Park, home to elephants, hippos and tree-climbing lions. Fascinated by local culture and history? Visit a Masai village to experience traditional dancing and music, or take an excursion to the archaeaological treasure trove of Olduvai Gorge, one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world.

The lodge is right next to the park entry gate for the Ngorongoro Crater (in fact, it's the closest) so you'll be the first to arrive with the wildlife in the morning and there won't be a queue in sight.
