About Ngala Beach Lodge

Beach-side bliss.
Be mesmerised by Lake Malawi at this chilled out spot on the lake shore. Book a bungalow on the beach and spend your days with your toes in the sand, soaking up the sun and enjoying languid swims in the cool turquoise water. Step off the beach into a tropical garden paradise with a vibrant birdlife. There’s an infinity swimming pool and restaurant serving unfussy fresh seafood, some of the best ribs south of the Sahara and they do pizza nights – we like!

Property details

The property

The thatched lodge offers an unpretentious restaurant serving good fare (in the corner there's a pizza oven). Stop in at the beautiful Soggy Kwacha Beach Bar and you probably won’t ever leave. Read a book in the hammock or enjoy a cold beverage while watching the sun go down. Beach braai? Yup, that happens here too. Other chill out spots are the lounge and swimming pool area or choose a thatched umbrella on the beach and spend your morning there.

The rooms

The deluxe cottages have A-frame thatched roofs with brick interiors. They’re spacious, sunny and decorated with a laid-back beach atmosphere and a touch of African chic. We love the double doors that open onto the private outdoor lounge/ terrace, the king-size bed, and the proximity to the beach. The executive suites are adjacent to the main lodge and overlook the infinity pool. They have the same amenities as the deluxe, just in a different location. Dormitory and camping also available.

Activities

If you’ve been trekking through Africa you’ll most certainly be keen to take off your dusty boots and get in the water. The lodge provides kayaks and a hobie cat for sailing. Take a trip to Kande beach for snorkelling or scuba diving (easy walk-in dive). Or go on a cultural tour through the village and meet some of the locals. Keen horse riders can explore the interior on horseback and even canter through the water on the lake.
