About Nomad Mkombe's House Lamai

A house fit for the whole family, steps from the Great Migration and fantastic wildlife.
The first private ‘house’ in the Serengeti, Mkombe’s is in fact more of an open-air, private camp, complete with multi-level viewing decks, swimming pools and a rustic, laidback feel. Located in the Lamai area of the northern Serengeti, it’s tucked into the boulders at the top of a hill and the views of the park are fabulous. With a chef, butler, private guide and vehicle, you’ll have the freedom to customise your daily activities and the resident guides will take your wildlife experiences to new heights as they show you Africa’s big game and, time of year dependent, the Great Migration.

Property details

The property

Mkombe’s House is ingeniously constructed from simple, natural materials (palm-thatch, canvas, and rough-hewn poles), creating open, breezy spaces that bring the outside in. Inside, there’s a large dining room, with twinkly glass tiles and soothing colours, a lounge area with big sofas and cosy chairs and even a projector/cinema room to keep the kids entertained. Outside, the maze of multi-level viewing decks open out to the views and house the two swimming pools, one of which is shallow and perfect for kids. Meals can also be served out here.

The rooms

The four bedrooms are impeccably decorated with soft rugs, mohair bed throws and plenty of beautiful objets d’art, all locally-sourced. The two master bedrooms have canvas walls that can be rolled up to reveal the decking and view beyond, outdoor showers and ‘starbeds’ which can be wheeled onto the veranda for a night under the stars. The twin bedrooms are fully-enclosed but still very pretty and the bathrooms have everything you’ll need.

Activities

With a private guide and vehicle at your service, your days at Mkombe’s will be customised entirely to suit you. Game drives are probably the preferred method of exploration, and you can choose to set off early in the morning, stay out late, or perhaps pack a picnic and spend a full day adventuring. Bush walks are offered depending on the length of grass and at an extra cost, hot air ballooning can also be arranged. Alternatively, the swimming pool and viewing decks are the ideal places to unwind – and still offer a chance to catch up on your wildlife watching.

What you'll love

With no less than two swimming pools overlooking the wildlife-spotted plains, downtime here is just as enjoyable as the game drives.
Insiders tip

Insiders Tip

Although Mkombe's House is perfectly positioned for watching the herds of the Great Migration (July to October), the resident wildlife is fantastic and visiting in the quieter months, away from the crowds, is just as magical...
Something to think about

Something to think about

There are two master bedrooms overlooking the Serengeti, however the two twin rooms are a tad smaller and don't have the same glorious views.
