About Oceanwide Ship: Ortelius

Your expedition to the polar frontier starts here! Ortelius was named after the Dutch/Flemish cartographer Abraham Ortelius (1527 – 1598), who in 1570 published the first modern world atlas (at that time his atlas was the most expensive book ever printed). Ortelius is strong ship, originally built as an expedition ship to conduct scientific research. Now, you have the opportunity to venture through the spectacular islands, harbours, and mountains of Antarctica aboard this ship. For your sleeping arrangements, the cabins come in various configurations, with single, double, triple, or quadruple occupancy. Onboard, the cabins and common spaces offer the convenience and comfort of a normal hotel, including a lecture room, dining room, and bar. (However, a quick glance out a portal window, with an incomparable view of the rugged polar landscape, will remind you that this is no normal hotel!) During the day, a host of unique polar experiences and invigorating activities are available to you. Zodiacs will take you from the ship to the shore where you can hike and try your hand at some wildlife photography. Keep your eyes peeled for many different species of penguins and seals. Polar diving in the icy waters will show you what's below the tip of the iceberg and you can admire the hardy sea life like anemones who survive in the polar sea. You can also go kayaking or opt to spend the night camping under the antarctic sky. A range of different cruises are on offer for you, each with their own specific itineraries, destinations, and merits. Depending how long you wish to travel for, there are cruises that last anywhere between 7 and 23 days. Destinations can include the Falklands, South Georgia, and Antarctica, but will vary based on your specific itinerary. Talk to one of our team to find the trip that is right for you. The price listed here is an estimated quote for a two week trip around Antarctica.
